Write a response to Claudia Jones Readings
Response papers (40%): these papers are summaries based on class readings for the week and written in your own words. You should summarize the authors’ arguments, include at least one question about the reading(s) in your summary, offer at least one criticism of the reading(s), and post your summary to the corresponding Black Board Discussion Forum on the assigned due date.
a. An ideal question will interrogate any gaps in the reading(s). Is there a group of people or a specific issue the author did not cover?
What else would you like to know about the topic? Be sure to avoid hypotheticals (i.e., “what if…?”).
b. As for criticism, you should comment on the author’s thesis. Do not just point out a disagreement you have with the author’s arguments. Instead, ask yourself: what or who did the author not consider that might intervene in, augment, or reveal a flaw in their thesis? How and or why will this additional information intervene in, augment, or reveal a flaw in their thesis?
c. You may respond to all of the readings for the week, but I suggest you focus your entire response on one particular reading. Also, some
readings are only for the purpose of class discussion and exams. They will not be used to write your response papers. Readings that count
towards the weekly response are identified in Blackboard. It is your responsibility to ensure that the reading you respond to counts
towards the assignment. Note that you will not receive credit if you respond to the wrong reading(s)
