Compare and contrast a specific element from one of the readings discussed in class and one modern work and infer how the works might reflect the values of their cultures. Modern works include books, movies, video games, graphic novels, songs, etc. from the last thirty years.
Directions:
For this option, you must focus on a specific element of the works. In other words, don’t try to compare every detail of the two works—instead, stick to a central topic. Specific elements include themes, the role of specific kinds of characters (such as partners, epic heroes, love interests, gods, etc.), the epic cycle, historical or social influences, depictions of cities, etc.
Requirements:
Write at least 1000 words (about 3 pages) but no more than 1500 words.
Include at least two quotations from each work (at least four quotations total).
Use MLA style for in-text citations and the works cited page. Please refer to The Bedford Handbook or the Purdue Online Writing Lab (linked on TRACS) for guidelines.
References to additional sources are optional. However, if additional sources are referenced in the essay, then they must be included on the works cited page.
Follow the document format discussed in class.
