ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR DAVID
The scenario you need to consider to complete these assessments, is that you are a third-year nursing student and you have been placed in the Community Health Setting where your chosen character lives. This may be an Aboriginal Medical Service. As part of your placement you are to conduct an education session. This session may be an individual education session (one on one) with David, or it may be a group session (with clients with similar backgrounds and physical conditions as David). You can choose which you prefer/or which might be more suitable for the David.
You must first identify and then justify the need for such a session with your evidence (PART A) and then conduct this session (PART B). See the assessment briefs for the detail.
You will need to really consider the context for David.
Where does he live?
What is his ethnic or cultural background?
What is his age?
What are his presenting physical conditions?
What are the impacts of these physical conditions on his lifestyle and wellbeing?
What is his story?
What is his living environment or arrangement like?
Does he work? The nature of his work?
His income or financial support?
Think holistically, think about the value of working with community and working with people in community settings, think about issues of health equity and access, community engagement and participation, as well as capacity building and advocacy. Think of yourself as being in the shoes of a Primary Healthcare Nurse where this is your daily function.
