Television Analysis for Bachelor TV Series
Unit 1: Television Analysis – Bachelor TV Series
After thinking about the topic, reading the articles, and taking the checklist, we invite you to participate in a collective analysis of an example of the unit’s topic. Please explore an episode (or portions from) the 2018 season of the Bachelor- http://abc.go.com/shows/thebachelor (http://abc.go.com/shows/thebachelor)
After 22 seasons of the Bachelor and 12 seasons of the Bachelorette prior to this, it would appear that there are four couples married and an additional four currently engaged. Many of the contestants have appeared on, or were previously on, other reality shows (the Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad, Bachelor in Paradise, Dancing with the Stars, etc.).
After watching, please give us your thoughts on what you can see of the show. Some things to consider might be
What is going on here, both on the surface and more deeply?
How real is this show? How realistic is the premise? Why do people watch it? Why do people appear on it?
What about the behavior and appearance of the participants? Their self reflection and treatment of each other?
What do we learn from these clips about society and our place in it?
What, if anything, do the film production values add to what you watch; are we influenced by lighting, music, camera angles, costuming?
If given the opportunity, would you appear on this or any other reality show (there is even an application on the website, should you desire to give it a try (: )?
Please take your analysis in any direction that you would like, provided that it stays within the topic.
In this post, we ask that you write at least 400 words, and specifically and thoughtfully incorporate the thoughts of a classmate (unless you are the first to post). You will also need to include a quotation from a course article pertinent to the analysis.
