Note Cards and Works Cited
Note cards:
1. A minimum of 20 cards is required, and the information on the cards should come from a minimum of five secondary sources (not from Educated). These cards may be done in PowerPoint or a word processor and should be submitted to
the Note Cards dropbox by the day listed in the schedule.
2. Each note card must include the four bits of information below.
a. one idea or fact per note card—information from the secondary sources that you think may be useful in writing your essay (though ultimately you probably won’t use all of the cards). I will not count cards that merely contain material from Westover’s book.
b. the author of the source or some other indication of the source
c. an original heading indicating the content of the note cards. (That way you can read the headings and know what is on the note card without having to read completely through the note card. Also, doing so helps you to begin to identify your main ideas.) Do not use the title of the article as your heading.
d. the number of the page(s) from which you got the information if you are using a print source or if the electronic source has page numbers. (For example, some .pdfs and e-books have page numbers.) If you are citing an electronic source that does not have page numbers, then your cards with information from that source will not contain page number.
