Compare and contrast various examples of a business roadmap

This discussion provides the opportunity for you to compare and contrast various examples of a business roadmap.

Directions

There are multiple business roadmaps on the market. A search of the Internet for images of Business Roadmaps will bring up many examples. Please search for large organizations business roadmap for IT modernization.

For your Business Case, you will include a Business Roadmap that shows:
1. tasks/activities,
2. milestones,
3. major participants,
4. timeline, and
5. phases.
You will NOT be graded on the look and feel of your choice or your design. However, you will be graded on the functionality and usability of the Roadmap chart or template.
For this discussion
Search the Internet for business roadmap examples; try to locate templates that include the capabilities listed above.
Select two roadmap templates. You may choose to use one of the graphics posted in the course or the textbook or one of the readings or videos and then please add a selection that you independently locate (or create on your own).
The objective is to identify at least two choices of simple charts/templates for your Business Roadmap that will be easy to manipulate and add components as they are discussed in the course.  Do not focus on the beauty of the graphic. That is not important. Focus on functionality, ease of use, ease of comprehension/interpretation, and ability to include the aspects listed above.

Instructions:

  1. Select, briefly describe, and provide a graphic of your two business roadmap models. For the benefit of providing potential future resources for your classmates, cite the source (and web link if applicable) for your chosen models. Links needs to be from credible source.
  2. Write a 350-400-word comparison of the two models. Since your assignment is to select and recommend the business roadmap template for your organization, you should assume that the target reader is the CEO.
Your comparison of models must consider the following:
o Usability and functionality – ability of the model to include tasks/activities, milestones, major participants, timeline and phases.
    o Cost.
o Ability to access and be maintained on multiple desktop and mobile platforms.
    o The input requirements.
    o The reporting options.
o A list of the strengths and weaknesses of each model.
These are the minimum points of comparison. You may certainly include additional bases of comparison.
  3. Select a model on the basis of your comparisons. Discuss and defend your preferences. Include a discussion of how you would use your model to defend your project proposal to the CEO. Also, discuss how you would use your model to report on the progress of the project. The ultimate goal of this discussion is to “sell” your classmates (who are assuming the role of leadership in your organization) on your selection and to describe to your classmates how the business roadmap will assist in keeping the Enterprise Modernization project on time and on budget.
