For this assignment, you will demonstrate your knowledge of an aspect of the Roman world through the eyes of an individual that lived during that time. You will do this through a work of fictional social history that you will create. First, you must select a social role during the Roman era that we are focusing on in class (c. 500-26 CE).
For example,
-Gladiator – Citizen Farmer – Travelling merchant
-Centurion – a Roman slave – A Plebian sitting on a Roman council
-Senator – Captured Hellenistic philosopher – A slave girl
-Aristocratic women – Defeated Carthaginian general – A prostitute

You will select a way in method in which to demonstrate your knowledge. You can choose to write a short narrative story, a series of letters to a friend or loved one, a dialogue…whatever you choose it must be at LEAST 4 full pages. In your written work you will demonstrate your knowledge of the important and accurate details of your historical characters life.
For example,
-The clothes they wear –The structure of their families – How/when their children are named –Battle techniques, weapons and armour –Important Roman holidays, rituals, celebrations and beliefs – Farming rituals ….etc. This is where you do your research!
For example,
Your details must accurately reflect your character’s level of knowledge and experience about the world in which they live in. For example, a poor and uneducated peasant farmer would NOT be quoting the Roman orator Cicero and wondering if Julius Caesar would survive his campaigns in Gaul.
