Formative Assessment in sustainability of using social media influencers as a tool for business and marketing
Formative Assessment is provided through formative oral feedback from peers and/or tutors within scheduled Small Group Teaching such as Seminars and Workshops such as Labs, addressing the chosen topic and proposed approach. This is based on diverse practices such as ongoing monitoring of student progress through interaction, overall student performance, discussion and feedback of the coursework in the physical/online class/discussion board. The nature of the techniques used are at the discretion of the module leader in collaboration with the tutors.
Summative Assessment
Students are assessed on two Summative Assessments throughout the year (Assessment for Semester 1 & Assessment for Semester 2) that are both related to a research topic of their choice.
In the Assessment for Semester 1 (Individual-based Quantitative or Qualitative Research Poster – equivalent of 1000 words – 20% weighting) students prepare part of the core aspects of a research (Proposed Research Topic, Focus, Rational, Aim, Research Questions and Objectives, Literature
Review and Theory, Conceptual Model and Hypotheses if applicable). The Assessment for Semester 1 serves as the basis for the Assessment for Semester 2.
The Assessment for Semester 2 (Individual-based Quantitative or Qualitative Research Proposal is based on a revised and extended Proposed Research Topic, Focus, Rational, Aim, Research Questions and Objectives, Literature Review and Theory, Conceptual
Model and Hypotheses (if applicable). This is extended by the inclusion of a specific Research Methodology (research philosophy, approach, methods, data collections, sample, data analysis and ethical considerations) and a Research Plan. The Research Proposal aims to prepare students
gradually for the Final Year Research Project and provide a basis for constructive feedback and in- depth learning.
In the Assessment for Semester 2, students can either:
a) use the same core elements of the Assessment for Semester 1 by accordingly expanding based on the feedback that have been provided
or
c) come up with something new from scratch based on the feedback that have been provided
The main reasons why students are asked to reproduce part of the Assessment for Semester 1 in the Assessment for Semester 2 are:
a) this helps them understand the research process better by redirecting their approaches,
b) this explains how the diverse core aspects that are required in their dissertation are linked to their research objectives/questions and their conceptual model (hypotheses if applicable) and
c) this helps them gain a more holistic perspective of what is required in a dissertation.
The above are vital in terms of conducting a good research but also regarding successfully completing their dissertation.
Please see below requirements for Assessment in Semester 1 and 2 in detail.
Assessment for Semester 1 – Research Poster
Electronic Version of an Individual-based Quantitative or Qualitative Research Poster
Research Poster) is designed to provide students with the starting point for a research idea related to
the business and marketing context.
Particularly, the Assessment is an individual-based work, where students are asked to present either
a Qualitative or a Quantitative Research Poster. Students are asked to identify and
effectively/efficiently depict in an Poster format (please see detailed format guidelines below) a “new”
specific “marketing-related” research topic of their choice, present and justify their choice, come up
with the aims of the research, formulate at least two research objectives and at least two research
questions, critically evaluate the relevant literature and present the conceptual model along with
hypotheses if applicable.
Students need to choose one of the two options available. They can either prepare a Poster
based on Quantitative or Qualitative Research. At this stage of the learning process, a mixed
method approach is not an option. The following chapters need to be included in the
Quantitative or Qualitative Research Poster.
