Each student will research and produce a comparative report of one global change controversy

Each student will research and produce a comparative report of one global change controversy. Global Change science and controversies are of particular interest for this class and as a real and unresolved matter of public policy. As before, we will encourage the widest variety of topics by asking that you reserve your topic using a tool set up by Brie.

Format

The format will be a 6‐7 “page” virtual poster. We will be using a Voicethread again. I expect that this format will facilitate the review and sharing of fundamental topics related to global warming science and policy in a creative, convenient and interesting way. We will be using Voicethread to host a series of mini poster with your discussion of the details posted on the side as “comments”. In science, the poster format is designed to simply communicate the essence of the issue and is not meant to be a complete accounting of every detail or nuance surrounding the topic. I want your “Content” slides to be as graphical/visual as possible. While any graph or chart should include proper axis labels, titles and citations, please save any discussion for the audio or text “comment” that you attach to the image.

I. Title Page (1 pg)

‐ Title, Name, Class, Date
‐ Why is this topic is of interest to you?
‐ Overview/ Big Picture – why is this topic important?
‐ Impact – Who will this issue/policy affect?

II. Introduction (1 pg)

‐ Include an underlined thesis – what are you trying to illustrate and give some background on this
topic

III. Content (2‐3 pgs) – mostly images/graphs/data

‐ Pro/Consensus perspective
‐ Con/Dissenting perspective
‐ Each of your data graphs/images must be explained (purpose and what it shows) using the Voicethread comment tool.

IV. Conclusion (1 pg)

‐ Restate the main point of contention
‐ What did your research reveal about the pros and cons surrounding this issue?
‐ What do you think about this issue?

V. References (1 pg)

‐ Must be in proper format, include sources of all images and associated URL’s, must be at least 3 refs.
‐ Our textbook DOES NOT COUNT – there are plenty of other sources – do some research
‐ Include a short “comment” that describes what changes you made after peer review
