CREATIVE ORGANIZATIONS
The design of systems, structures, and cultures have their origins in the structures of consciousness that create them. The cultures and structures that most organizations are moving toward are Creative Structures. They are thus designed, led, and sustained by leaders functioning out of a Creative Mind. The natural tendency of Reactive Mind is to create and recreate patriarchal and overly hierarchical organizations. Creative Mind tends to establish systems, structures, and cultures that are creatively unique and different. These change efforts have many different
labels—lean, agile, adaptable, fast, innovative, flexible, empowered, involving, inclusive, participative, engaging, self-managed, intrapre- neurial, creative, fluid, flat, purpose-driven, visionary, and so on. We are moving to these types of organizations because the worldwide leader- ship experience strongly suggests that they can better compete in today’s environment of constant change and escalating complexity.
Creative Mind is more adapted to lead this kind of change. Reactive Mind too readily defaults to old patterns of leadership. Reactive Mind is not mature enough to lead change into a Creative organization design. This requires Creative Level Mind or higher.
