    • those that aim at picky details like grammar, spelling, or word count;

    • those that offer no “food for thought” for the writer — e.x., merely saying, “I was confused by your draft,” without offering any specifics as to what parts confused you, or why;
    • those that merely praise the writer but with no specifics as to what he or she did well — e.x., “I think you did a great job,”  or “I really like your topic.”  Such praise is nice to offer, but not likely to help a writer re-imagine and improve his or her work.
