Students are to research, structure, and formulate a research paper that compares and contrasts the manner in which a documentary presents “truth” versus written text presents “truth” on one topic. Students are required to use a minimum of ten different sources: one documentary, one book, and seven peer-reviewed periodicals that explain the manner in which television and film manipulate reality.
Pick a topic that explores the power of the media to shape our perceptions and understanding of reality on that topic. Students should keep in mind that this is a research project and not an opportunity to deliver an emotionally charged rant. It is in the best interest of a student to choose a topic with which s/he is not too emotionally attached.
This paper must have a minimum of ten pages not including the Works Cited page. Ten points will be deducted for each page under ten pages. Any paper under ten sources will automatically lose ten points for each source under ten sources. Also, any paper that plays with the margins or font size in order to make the paper appear longer than it would be with one inch margins and size twelve font will automatically lose fifty percent.
