How did the Cold War change American foreign and domestic society

How did the Cold War change American foreign and domestic society

1)Prompt:

How did the Cold War change American foreign and domestic policy/society?

This is an exercise in critical thinking and a good self-assessment to see if you are “connecting the dots” and thinking historically. Answer the question in ONE well-constructed paragraph (4-5 sentences). Paragraphs should begin with a thesis statement (1st sentence). Subsequent sentences should present historical facts with your analysis (how do these facts support your thesis statement in response to the prompt). Grammar and mechanics count and don’t forget to cite as necessary.
The format for a one paragraph response is the following:

First Sentence: Must be a clear and concise thesis statement
Next 1-2 Sentences: Introduce your first piece of evidence (historical fact) and explain how it supports your thesis
Next 1-2 Sentences: Introduce your second piece of evidence (historical fact) and explain how it supports your thesis
Next 1-2 Sentences: Introduce your third piece of evidence (historical fact) and explain how it supports your thesis
At least ONE piece of evidence should be drawn from a primary source. TWO or more pieces of evidence from primary sources shows an excellent level of use. Don’t forget to cite! Your evidence should be drawn from the course materials. DO NOT USE OUTSIDE RESOURCES.

RULE OF THREE THESIS – Do you have a well thought out and clear overall thesis in your introduction? Do you have a thesis statement for your paragraph? Does the paragraph organization follow the thesis statement?

EVIDENCE – You must have solid evidence for each point you raise in the thesis. Evidence is not simply a statement, there must be an explanation of how that evidence supports the thesis statement.

Example: If you were writing a paragraph on the causes of the Cold War, you might use the Baruch Plan as an example. Simply writing “the Baruch Plan was a cause of the Cold War” in your paragraph would not be enough and would not be analytical. However, the following sentences do provide a good analysis of this piece of evidence:

“One cause of the Cold War was the failure of the United States and the Soviet Union to agree upon a plan for nuclear disarmament after World War II. The Baruch Plan, presented by the US, would maintain the American atomic weapon advantage for the foreseeable future. This played into Stalin’s suspicions of the Americans’ true motivations toward the USSR.”

PROPER CITATION – Have you properly cited? Have you used Turabian/Chicago? You must also FOOTNOTE. Parenthetical cites are NOT allowed.

2) PROMPT

The 1920s were a boom period economically, but the era ended in the greatest economic bust in American history. Who/what do you think was most responsible for this bust? Why? How did the New Deal address the causes of the bust? Place your answer into the historical contexts a provide specific and detailed historical facts as evidence.

Requirements

Use only the materials provided in the course module or your assigned textbooks. We have vetted all materials in this course and other materials may or may not be appropriate for college level work. I will downgrade anyone who uses outside materials. Remember what you have learned about thesis statements and evidence in the Historical Analysis materials. Your post should have a thesis statement and it should have both primary and secondary source evidence in support of the thesis Don’t quote secondary sources. Paraphrase in your own words and then cite instead. You must properly cite using the Turabian/Chicago style that you can find under “Writing Help” in the course menu to your left.
