A nurse knows whether the knowledge in the research study is usable because systematic reviews and adherence to a strict scientific design and can be replicated. Before deciding to change a critical thinker will look at the evidence and decide whether the correct move for their environment is. Next, they will make sure that it is reliable and brings positive outcomes and helps increase productivity (Houser, 2018). Credibility and clinical significance influence my decision to integrate research into my practice because I know that they are evidence-based practices and will bring a positive outcome to my profession.
According to Houser systematic review is “structured process of identifying, praising, and summarizing research into guidelines for practice and is characterized objectively which avoids bias.” Whereas a systematic review of literature is used “to determine basic knowledge about the problem and to identify relevant evidence” (Houser, 2018). It is important to incorporate the review of literature because it provides evidence-based support and helps incorporate therapeutic interventions. It also helps the nurse to identify research questions and to help improve the nursing environment.
In the article I read, Bias Affects All Scientific Research, (Hayton, 2012) stated, ” “A biased scientific result is no different from a useless one.” That basically means that your research on the study will be affected because of your thoughts about it.
