The topic will be; “How has democracy advance in South America since the late 1980s”
Requirements:
• You will need at minimum the following sections
– Introduction, Theory, Discussion of Data, Discussion of Results, and Conclusion
• All components of recent homework should be addressed
– Note conceptual level variables
– Outline your causal argument
– Describe your research design (Experimental or Observational)
– Discuss your data source(s)
– Describe your data (Spatial and Time Units)
– Describe how you operationalize the variables
– State the expected relationship between each of your independent and dependent variables
• Analysis
– Descriptive Statistics on each variable (appropriate numerical and graphical summaries depending on the metric of your variable)
– Bivariate Hypothesis Testing (you do not necessarily have to do both bivariate regression AND multiple regression. But you should do other appropriate bivariate hypothesis tests—dependent on the metric of your variable.
– Multiple Regression. Each paper must include a multiple regression model—meaning a model with two independent variables for which you have developed a theoretical argument. YOU CANNOT just include two or more dummy variables representing a categorical variable.
– In other words, you cannot count two dummies for economic development and count that as two separate independent variables. They have to be two variables representing two conceptual level arguments.
– You must interpret the results. You cannot simply say the positive parameter estimate indicates that X is positively related to Y. You must include predicted values in the regression setting or predicted probabilities in you have a dummy dependent variable.
– These are the minimum requirements. You must demonstrate you have a good understanding of the tools you can use and be able to substantively interpret your results.
