I chose “Race Inequality in Occupational Mobility”. Students will select one article provided on blackboard covering a variety of issues related to the domain of “Diversity in the Workplace.” Students will read the article and provide some analysis in regard to specific questions (see below). Students must demonstrate critical thinking and analysis within this essay. This journal assignment should focus on why and how this diversity issue is related to career development. Students should address the prompts below within an essay.
- Provide the citation of the article somewhere on the essay (at the end in a list of references is acceptable).
- Introduce the diversity topic. Summarize the main points of the article (be sure to use citations do NOT plagiarize).
- Discuss your thoughts about this issue. Include whether you agree/disagree with the main points. Explain your reasoning. Use evidence to support your argument.
2. Discuss how and why this issue is relevant to career development in general.
3. Discuss thoroughly how the issue applies to you and your career choice. ** “it doesn’t” is not acceptable. Think about working with colleagues, being involved in team-building, hiring, promotion, and firing.
4. Last of all, discuss how you would go about setting policies if you were the decision maker in a company in order to prevent/minimize issues related to diversity. Be specific. This can include setting policies, or responding to specific incidents of oppression, providing accommodations, etc.
As with all papers in this class – follow appropriate formatting guidelines and include citations. Papers should be in an essay format including proper structure (i.e. introduction paragraph, transitions, complete sentences, a concluding paragraph). Paper should be no shorter or longer than 5 pages.
