The exam should be submitted as pdf and uploaded to its learning in saved format and not in saved draft format.
• Q1 Suppose that 5% of the population in a country is affected by a pandemic of virus. In addition, suppose that a test is available and correctly identifies the virus 95% of the time. If the individual is infected with virus, the probability is 0.95 that the the individual is correctly identified by the test.
Similarly, if the individual is not infected, the probability is 0.90 that the individual is correctly identified as non-infected. If the test result is positive,
i) What is the probability that the individual is infected with the virus?
ii) What is the probability that the individual is not infected with the virus?

• Q2 A bank hires management trainees for entry level positions. Past experience indicates that only 10% will still be employed at the end of one year.

Assume the bank recently hired six trainees.
i) What is the probability that three of the trainees will still be employed at the end of one year? Interpret.

ii)What is the probability that at least two of the trainees will still be employed at the end of one year? Interpret.

Provide the answer explicitly on your sheet using the formulae, then provide the corresponding R codes as well.

• Q3 The speed of cars passing through a check point follows a normal distribution with a mean of 45 km per hour and a standard deviation of 6 km per hour. What is the probability that the next car passing will be exceeding 51 km per hour? First, provide the answer explicitly on your sheet and give the interpretation of the probability you found, then provide the R code that
corresponds to the probability computed.
