Thinking into it if I knew that the person who stole my vehicle was on the straight and narrow, then hopefully he has seen the error of his way and leads crime free life. Understanding that people can be desperate and think that a life of stealing will help them along their path. When caught if they go to jail statistically, they have a higher chance of getting involved in other offense in crime whether it was their choice or that of his surroundings. These programs let the ones that have committed a low-level offense an option in a way to be on work release with stipulations that they complete the mandated course such as Mental Health and or Substance abuse if that was a contributing factor in the crime during their work release.
Diversion allows low-level defendants to avoid criminal charges, and thus divert them from the criminal justice system, if they follow a prescribed program set out by a prosecutor. Conditions can include some combination of classes, community service, addiction treatment, mental health counseling, and restitution (Schwartz, Staff, Gelb, Cipriano, & Gest, 2018). Really the only concern is who they are mingling with when they are off work even though they are to go straight home after treatment and work. I have two friends who were thankful for receiving this work release program and have been on the straight for the past 5 years with no relapse or theft.

The work release programs is very useful. It will teach the offenders responsibility. It will keep them from doing things in the street they shouldn’t have been doing in the first place. There is a lot of lost souls out there. People don’t know what it means to have a family. Some of the offenders just need love. As long as the program help the criminals to become better people, I don’t have a problem with it.
