The Denver Developmental II Assessment
Title The Denver Developmental II Assessment
You will do one developmental screening on the ‘virtual child’ scenario below.
Four-year-old Lawson is an African American male child who presents to your primary care clinic for a well-child checkup in preparation to go to preschool. His mother and father are with him today. Lawson is talkative and interested in the stethoscope and how it works. He is pleasant and communicative. He follows instructions attentively. When you conduct the DD, here are the findings:
Mother states he is able to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with help. They do not eat breakfast cereal. He is able to brush his teeth with help and get dressed by himself, aside from tying his shoes. He is able to draw a person with 3 parts, choose which line is longer, demonstrate simple copying, and is able to define 5 out of 7 simple words. His speech is mostly understandable, he is able to name 5 colors, count 10 blocks, understand 4/4 prepositions, and
knows 2 adjectives. He can balance on each foot for 3 seconds and cannot successfully heel to toe walk.
The Denver Developmental II Assessment will include:
* Denver II Rating Form
* A one-page summary sheet that includes a description of the results of the screening test and the anticipatory guidance letter to parents, based on the results of the Denver Assessment — and the child’s developmental level
